This is our typical project journey, giving you a clear and structured path from first conversation to finished design. Every home and every client is different, so we adjust the process as needed to create a completely bespoke experience.
Stage 1 Discovery Call
Our project begins with a friendly conversation with Rachael or one of our architects.
We’ll talk through:
-
Your ideas and goals
-
How you currently use your home
-
What’s not working
-
Your desired budget and timescale
-
Whether planning permission is likely to be needed
This call helps us understand your vision and confirm the next steps.
Stage 2
In-Person Design Discussion at Your Home
We visit your home to understand the space in real context.
During this meeting we:
-
Explore what’s possible from a design and planning perspective
-
Talk through different layout ideas
-
Highlight constraints and opportunities
-
Offer initial architectural guidance
You’ll receive honest advice on what will add value, what is feasible, and where your investment is best placed.
Stage 3 Measured Survey
We carry out a full measured survey of your property or recommend a survey company for more complex/larger projects.
This is where we collect accurate dimensions and property details that form the basis of all drawings.
(If the project requires specialist surveys such as structural, tree, flood, or bat surveys, we arrange these for you.)
Stage 4 Initial Design Concepts
Based on everything we’ve learned, we prepare a set of initial design options.
These typically include:
-
Layout variations
-
Re-configurations to improve flow
-
Ideas to maximise space and light
-
Different extension or conversion possibilities
You’ll be able to clearly compare the pros and cons of each option.
Stage 5 Review & Refine
We meet again to review the design options in detail.
Together we discuss:
-
Which option best suits your goals
-
Likely build costs
-
Planning considerations
-
Any changes you’d like to explore
We then refine your preferred design until you’re completely happy.
Stage 6 Planning Drawings & Submission
Once your design is confirmed, we prepare all drawings and documents required for planning.
This includes:
-
Existing and proposed plans
-
Elevations
-
Site and location plans
-
Design statements where required
-
Pre-application enquiry (if beneficial for your project)
We handle and manage the entire planning submission on your behalf.
Stage 7 Planning Process & Updates
During the planning period (usually 8 weeks), we:
-
Monitor the application
-
Respond to any queries from the Council
-
Make minor adjustments if requested
-
Keep you updated throughout
We also liaise with you if the Council suggests amendments, ensuring your proposal has the strongest chance of approval.
Stage 8 Building Regulations Drawings
Once planning is granted, we produce your Building Control/Regulation drawings.
These detailed technical drawings are used for:
-
Building Control approval
-
Structural engineer calculations
-
Accurate builder quotations
-
On-site construction guidance
This stage ensures the project is compliant, safe, and ready for construction.
Stage 9 Optional: On-Site Support & Project Assistance
If you’d like additional support during the build, we can help with:
-
Site visits
-
Liaising with builders
-
Checking work against the drawings
-
Helping resolve issues on site
-
Guiding the project through to completion
Many clients choose this for peace of mind and smoother build progress.
A Clear Path From Idea to Build
We’ve designed our process to remove the uncertainty that often comes with building projects. You’ll always know what’s happening, who is doing what, and what comes next. If you’d like to discuss your own project, simply book a call with Rachael, she will guide you through the best way to get started.
